Wish upon the Stars : A Superhero Cultivation LitRPG

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Author: Malcom Tent

Blurb: Heroes, Villains and those in between constantly struggle in a world where the race to the top of the food chain can be brutal and unforgiving. For people like Shane, though, sometimes you get a leg up on the competition. Maybe he can be one of the few that can actually make it to the top. Or maybe that's just Wishful thinking.

A well executed, unique take on superheroes.

If you're looking for a fun, (sub)genre-bending story with fast-paced progression, a pretty unique system and concept, and solid writing, consider giving this story a shot.

The style is effective for what it needs to be. It doesn't try to be too fancy, and it doesn't need to be. Sometimes, it can get a little info-dumpy, but it's not too often and it's never something that impacted my enjoyment of the story.

Speaking of the story, I think this is where the author really starts to shine. The concept and execution are very well done. The superhero elements are integrated seamlessly, and the author manages to mix it with the cultivation elements very well. The wish power does seem very powerful (even though it’s not granting his own wishes, as the blurb sort of makes it seem like) and it makes for some pretty fast-paced progression, but numbers going up is never a bad thing.

When it comes to “meandering”, I don’t mind that the story takes some breaks to do things other than pure progression.

The grammar is pretty good. It feels thoroughly edited and clean, however a couple mistakes do slip through and a couple things sound a little awkward, especially when it comes to dialogue. But it’s not anywhere near enough to ruin the story.

When it comes to the characters, the main character (Shane) is definitely the best. He makes some mistakes, and can be a little naïve, but that’s not a huge issue. He doesn’t have to be perfect. The side characters are usually fleshed-out at least a little bit, so that’s nice too.

Anyways, I think that about sums it up. I promise, you’ll enjoy it.
